Well we are here and despite putting most of my crafting equipment into storage I made sure I kept all my essential toy making equipment easy to un pack and I’ve started to make toys again, yay.
This is the first post of my new blog.
I’m Kate, born in London then lived in the peak district in Buxton till I was 8 years old then moved toin Cambridgeshire.
I met my husband in Bournemouth despite the fact that he and his family also live in Cambridgeshire!
12 years on we have 4 children Henry 11, George 10, Hattie 6, and Freddie who is 4.
Henry and Freddie are both on the autistic spectrum.
I have always been interested in art and craft, studied various art and design courses and then ended up by chance doing a BA hons in Ceramic Design.
I’ve never been overly confident in what I have created and I’m much more comfortable learning a skill as opposed to create something abstract.
I think that must be why I really love crochet. I taught myself to crochet about 5 years ago by watching videos on Utube.
I then got completely obsessed about different types of yarn. I had a whole loft full of different varieties and brands with plans for different projects that never came to be.
It was only last year that I decided to explore the possibility of making and selling crochet toys. Once id got my head around the CE testing and decided on what style of toy I wanted to go for I took the plunge and that is how The Cotton Ear Company came about.
The name was just randomly thought up I knew I wanted to only work with Cotton as I personally think it gives such a lovely feel to toys. It also washes much better than acrylic yarn, when I’ve put my toys through the torture of the CE testing they still look pretty good!
I figured that most of my toys would have ears so just came up with the cotton ear co.
Well this is where I’ll be blogging a bit about my general life and what I’m currently working on.
